Writing Spells

By: Patti D

I write almost all my spells myself. Basically what I do is:

(1) Figure out the goal of the spell -- what is it I want to accomplish?
(2) Determine what components I will need to acheive the goal -- herbs, candles, stones, etc. I tend to use a lot of symbolism in my spellwork, and sometimes some of my ingredients are downright... unusual. I've used matchbox cars (children's toys are a favorite of mine), chess pieces, hardware, bits of string, sunglasses, and a number of other odd things.
(3) Decide on timing, if necessary. Do I need to do it at a particular phase of the moon, a certain day of the week, or do I just go for it, whenever I feel up to it?
(4) Figure out what -- if anything -- I'm going to verbalize during the working. Am I going to chant something, mutter a poetic couplet under my breath, or just ponder the Universe silently?
(5) Put it all together into some sort of workable form, then actually DO the spell.,bR> I know that this is a very simplistic way of looking at spell construction, and I'm sure that some folks here will have a much more thorough explanation for you, but I like to go by the old KISS rule. It doesn't get much simpler than this.
